BREAST CANCER AWARENESS

BCRF-RGBHex-1024x791Every year, our team at Wedgewood Weddings joins the mission to beat breast cancer by walking with the Susan G Komen Organization and BCRF. This helps to fund local breast health initiatives that make a lasting impact in our local communities.

WALK

Find a race near you and discover friends at Wedgewood Weddings who will encourage you as you walk. Most 'Race For Life' initiatives offers a child's fun run, 5K, and speed race.

DONATE

If you wish you can donate too and we'll double the impact of your gift! At Wedgewood Weddings, we match the donation with our local fundraising initiatives.  We're delighted to have given tens of thousands to this much-needed organization.

BCRF'S HISTORY & MISSION

In 1993, Evelyn H. Lauder and Dr. Larry Norton recognized the urgent need to eradicate breast cancer and created the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Ever since, BCRF-supported investigators have been deeply involved in every major breakthrough in breast cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship.

Research is the reason there are more than 3.8 million breast cancer survivors in the U.S. and deaths from breast cancer have declined by nearly 40% over the last 25 years. But with 40,000 lives lost to the disease each year, there is still critical work to be done.

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) is dedicated to the end of breast cancer by advancing the world's most promising research. This organization has awarded millions of dollars in grants to support the work of leading scientists around the world, making it the largest private funder of breast cancer research worldwide. BCRF is also the highest-rated breast cancer organization in the U.S.

1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. For men, the lifetime risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer is about 1 in 833. So, the more we raise, the more BCRF can support the men and women of America through breast cancer education, screening, and treatment programs to support national research toward finding the cure.

SUSAN G. KOMEN HISTORY & MISSION

In 1980, Nancy G. Brinker promised her sister, Susan, that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became the Susan G. Komen® organization and the beginning of a global movement. What started with $200 and a shoebox full of potential donor names has now grown into the world’s largest nonprofit source of funding for the fight against breast cancer. To date, they’ve invested more than $2.9 billion in groundbreaking research, community health outreach, advocacy, and programs in more than 60 countries. They have helped reduce deaths from breast cancer by 40 percent in the last 40 years.

The Susan G. Komen organization addresses breast cancer on multiple fronts such as research, community health, global outreach, and public policy initiatives in order to make the biggest impact against this disease.
