Valentine DTLA by Wedgewood Weddings is a singular industrial-chic weddings & event venue set in Downtown Los Angeles' historic North Sea district, a 15,000-square-foot venue of discoverable spaces where raw architectural character, lush tropical gardens, and extraordinary site-specific artwork converge into one of the most visually arresting wedding destinations in the city.
Originally constructed in the 1920s as part of Los Angeles' seafood market and industrial corridor, the buildings have lived many fascinating lives — serving at various points as a hotel, a fish-and-oyster operation, industrial workspaces, and creative production studios. Each chapter has left its mark, and it is precisely this layered past that gives Valentine DTLA its soul. During a masterful renovation, reclaimed lumber, steel, original flooring, and salvaged windows were repurposed into ceilings, walls, furniture, and decorative elements — ensuring that the history of the buildings lives on in every surface and detail. The result is a venue of rare and dramatic power, where soaring 35-foot greenhouse roofs flood lush tropical courtyards with natural light, handcrafted wooden tables and hand-stitched Italian leather Arrben chairs set an elevated tone for dining, and site-specific artwork by some of Los Angeles' most compelling artists transforms every room into a living gallery.
The journey begins in the Grassroom Greenhouse — a breathtaking ceremony space where towering birds of paradise, ponytail palms, and lush alocasia create a living urban oasis beneath a soaring glass roof. Natural light streams through the greenhouse ceiling at all hours, casting a golden warmth over reclaimed brick floors and arched doorways built from the building's original bow truss ceilings, framed by stained glass windows and lit by handmade copper fixtures. Raw, romantic, and utterly one of a kind, the Grassroom Greenhouse sets the tone for everything that follows.
From the ceremony, guests flow naturally into the Ocean Room with Grotto Bar, where the energy transitions from reverent to celebratory. The Grotto Bar is a showstopper in its own right, featuring a glowing copper bar top and cavern-like walls embellished with ceramic starfish and sea anemones by artist Josh Beckman. Leafy tropical plants frame the bar, softening the industrial edges of the space and creating an atmosphere that feels at once lively and intimate. The Ocean Room itself is named for the textural clay seaweed murals that line its walls — the work of artist Ivan Lee Mora, whose carved totemic sea creatures perch above the southern end of the room, keeping watch over the celebration below. Tall pink sliding doors open wide between the Grassroom Greenhouse and the Ocean Room, allowing the two spaces to breathe together as guests mingle and take in the remarkable surroundings.
As the evening unfolds, guests are welcomed into the Sunset Room — the dedicated dining heart of the reception. Oversized barn doors open into a space where patchwork concrete floors, repurposed wooden walls salvaged from the original hotel, and a sweeping clay sunset mural by Josh Beckman create a warm, textural backdrop for seated dinners. Handcrafted wooden tables built from tongue-and-groove floors recovered during the renovation are paired with hand-stitched Italian leather Arrben chairs, bringing an elevated yet deeply personal warmth to every place setting.
Connected to the Sunset Room, the Palm Courtyard serves as the vibrant social hub of the reception — an expansive, light-filled garden space beneath a 35-foot glass greenhouse roof, surrounded by flourishing tropical plants, reclaimed brick floors, and richly textured clay and wood walls. Crystal fountains and carved big cats are tucked into the greenery, while the ghost of the building's original two-story hotel lingers above the palm fronds. The pièce de résistance is a massive 14-foot heptagonal keyhole door, hand-painted by artist Stacy Smith with lemurs, butterflies, and chameleons. The Palm Courtyard lends itself beautifully to lounge seating, a welcome table, gift display, photo booth, and open-floor dancing — and when the sun goes down, the venue's DJ-ready sound system, mixing board, and dimmable lighting transform it into a dance floor open to the stars. Serving both spaces is the Cinder Cone Bar, named for its dramatic bas-relief erupting volcano sculpture by Josh Beckman.
For guests who need a breath of fresh air, the Back Alley Lounge offers an outdoor escape with sweeping views of the DTLA skyline, bistro lights, and cozy patio furniture.
For couples and their wedding parties, Valentine DTLA offers two stunning private retreats. The rose-hued Madonna Suite is a serene sanctuary featuring plush velvet seating, natural light, patchwork fabric walls, and a Bluetooth sound system. The jewel-toned Emerald Suite offers the same sense of privacy and luxury, with plush velvet couches, patchwork fabric walls by Tony Brown, and a Bluetooth sound system — a verdant, jewel-box refuge for brides, grooms, performers, and VIP guests alike.
Valentine DTLA by Wedgewood Weddings is more than a venue — it is a living piece of Los Angeles history. Every element of this extraordinary space has been designed to create an event experience that is as unforgettable as it is unique.
