Seasonal Considerations

Fall is considered on-season throughout most of the United States and definitely in Southern California. Two of the most popular months for weddings are September and October when the heat cools a little and rainfall in minimal. Understandably, fall dates always book quickly. Fall-Inspired Wedding Favors

Add a little DIY to your wedding favors with homemade jams, jellies, or to really personalize your guests’ experience! Edible wedding favors are always in good taste, and fall is the best time of year to jump on this trend. In-season fruits like pomegranates lend a pop of color to each place setting, while candied apples would delight any guest. Cute bottles of maple syrup or local honey perfectly fit the season. Mini donuts or pie-on-a-stick are surefire hits, and DIY s'mores packages or mix-your-own hot chocolate cones are a sweet treat for guests to take home.

Autumn Color Palette

Do a Google image search for "Fall Weddings" and you'll no doubt see tons of deep reds, oranges, and browns. Although this color palette mimics the changing of the leaves and provides natural warmth to any style of décor, don't be boxed in by the "fall foliage" feel!

Wanna get a bit more modern with your fall color palette? Consider using gold or copper for a bit of glitz and glam, deep plum and emerald green for elegance, or neutral shades like champagne, cream, and slate gray.

The Wedding Party

You may want to pick a slightly heavier fabric for your bridesmaid dresses or have your entourage wear boleros or pashminas to keep the chill at bay. Deep jewel tones, glimmering metallics, and long-sleeved bridesmaid dresses are all lovely options for autumn attire.

The groomsmen can get creative with their fall wardrobe, too! How about argyle socks or plaid ties? Smart navy or gray suits are a sophisticated choice with these bold accessories.

Fall Wedding Cake Trends

Fall wedding cakes can be sophisticated, rustic or down home with drizzles of ganache or caramel, "rough" buttercream icing, or no icing at all! Naked cakes (with minimal or no outside frosting) look stunning decorated with fall fruits, such as figs.

Seasonal flavors include apple spice cake, gingerbread, or, you guessed it, pumpkin spice cake. Red velvet would also be a lovely choice to complement a deep red color palette. Fall weddings in California offer a unique opportunity for couples to showcase their creativity and personal style through their wedding cake and dessert table designs. With warm weather and bright blue skies often a hallmark of autumn in Southern California, there are endless possibilities for incorporating seasonal flavors and colors into these sweet treats.

One popular trend for fall wedding cakes is to incorporate natural elements and earthy tones into the design. Think textured buttercream frosting in shades of rust or deep green, adorned with fresh blooms or fruit such as figs, pomegranates, or persimmons. These elements can add a touch of rustic charm to the cake, while also highlighting the beauty and bounty of the season.

Another approach is to embrace the warm weather by opting for lighter, fresher flavors and designs. Citrus and berry flavors can be a refreshing and unexpected choice for a fall wedding cake, while a naked or semi-naked cake design can showcase the beauty of the natural ingredients and textures. Add a touch of gold leaf or metallic accents for a touch of glamour and sophistication.

Autumnal Wedding Weather

Fall comes with cooler, fresh weather —the ideal for a seasonal wedding. We think Autumn does more than set a pretty scene: the season's signature spices lend themselves to delicious cocktails; muted, earthy color schemes make for stunning paper goods and floral arrangements; and the harvest's signature produce (think apples and pumpkins) make for the sweetest décor. There's a reason why fall has become one of the most popular seasons for nuptials. Ultimately, if you're trying to decide on a month for your wedding, you can't go wrong with a September, October, or November date.

Fall weddings in California are truly a sight to behold, and one of the most exciting aspects of planning a wedding during this time of year is the incredible fall wedding décor. From rustic to elegant, there are endless possibilities when it comes to fall wedding décor, and California's stunning landscapes and natural beauty provide the perfect backdrop for any theme.

Here are four fall wedding décor ideas that will have you falling head over heels in love with your special day:

  1. Natural elements: Incorporating natural elements like pumpkins, gourds, leaves, and branches into your décor is a must for any fall wedding in California. These natural elements not only add warmth and texture to your décor but also celebrate the beauty of the season. Consider incorporating natural elements into your centerpieces, bouquets, and even your wedding cake!

  2. Warm colors: Warm, rich colors are synonymous with fall, and incorporating these colors into your décor is a surefire way to make your wedding feel cozy and inviting. Consider using deep reds, oranges, and yellows in your floral arrangements, table settings, and even your bridesmaid dresses.

  3. Rustic charm: If you're looking for a more rustic and charming feel for your fall wedding décor in California, think about incorporating wooden elements like barrels, crates, and wooden signs. These elements will add a touch of natural beauty and a warm, cozy feel to your wedding décor.

  4. Cozy blankets: As the sun sets and the temperatures drop in the evening, providing cozy blankets for your guests is a thoughtful touch that will keep them warm and comfortable. Consider having a basket of blankets near the dance floor or in a lounge area where guests can cozy up and enjoy the festivities.

In fact, some of the most unforgettable weddings are the ones that break the mold and incorporate unusual elements that truly reflect the couple's personality and style. Here are some unusual autumn wedding ideas in California that are sure to make your special day stand out:

  1. Harvest-inspired décor: Instead of the usual fall décor elements like pumpkins and leaves, consider incorporating harvest-inspired décor like apples, pears, and grapes into your centerpieces and table settings. This will add a unique touch to your décor, but it will also celebrate the abundance of California's harvest season.

  2. Bold and bright colors: While fall weddings are typically associated with warm and muted colors, why not break the mold and incorporate bold and bright colors into your wedding? Think deep purples, bright blues, and even neon pinks. These unexpected colors will add a playful and fun touch to your wedding décor, just like Eric and Nicole.

  3. Non-traditional entertainment: Instead of the usual wedding band or DJ, consider incorporating non-traditional entertainment like a photo booth, a tarot card reader, or even a live painter who creates a painting of your wedding as it's happening. These unexpected elements will keep guests engaged and add a memorable touch to your wedding.

What should a guest expect at a fall wedding? Eric and Nicole treated their guests to an incredible day with an outside courtyard ceremony and then an inside reception with bright whites and colorful fall décor.  As a guest, it can be a challenge to navigate the changing temperatures and find the perfect outfit that balances comfort, style, and appropriateness for the occasion. With a little creativity, you can create a look that will make you feel confident and comfortable throughout the day.

One important consideration when dressing for a fall wedding in California is to take advantage of the warm and sunny weather while it lasts. A sundress or jumpsuit in a bold, bright color can be a perfect choice for a daytime ceremony, paired with sandals or block-heeled mules. Incorporate bold prints or floral patterns, which will pop against the blue skies and sunny landscapes of Southern California.

As the day transitions into evening, be sure to have layers on hand to keep warm as temperatures drop. A cropped jacket or light cardigan in a complementary color can be an excellent option, paired with strappy heels or ankle boots. For men, a lightweight blazer or sport coat in a soft fabric such as linen or cotton can be a comfortable and stylish choice.

When it comes to colors, go traditional with jewel tones, traditional fall hues of orange, brown, and red or think bigger; the natural surroundings offer a wide range of vibrant colors, from ocean blues to desert oranges and pinks. Consider incorporating these unique shades into your wedding guest outfit for a look that reflects the beauty and diversity of the California landscape.
