Exclusive: Wedding Trends According to Expert Planners!

Exclusive: Wedding Trends According to Expert Planners!

Wedding planning is a lot of work, so many couples look to wedding planners for inspiration and ideas. But specific trends come and go, and with every new year comes new wedding trends! So, we’ve gathered insights from some of the top wedding planners in the industry: take a look at what their predictions are for the new year and consider incorporating them into your wedding planning!

Jesse Tombs of Alison Events

Trends to Expect

Jesse predicts that for this new year, it’s all about being more expressive by using vibrant color palettes. He expects clients to veer towards more bold and lively colors, instead of the classic softer nudes that have been a staple in most weddings in the past decades.

What's Anticipated

Jesse also shared about an exciting project that he worked on, where his client was committed to making his wedding an environmentally conscious one. He also expressed his excitement to work with couples looking to do a food and wine-focused wedding theme, or clients who embrace food and beverage as a significant part of their big day.

Best Advice

In Jesse’s opinion, it’s best if a couple takes on a more intimate approach; hire vendors whom they are able to better connect with, instead of just considering whether the vendors fit their style and budget. According to him, couples should take the time to get to know potential vendors on a more personal level. After all, these partners will play an essential role in their big day!

Sunna Yassin of Bash Please

Trends to Expect

According to Sunna, this year’s most popular and trendy looks are non-traditional bridesmaids’ outfits with a broad range of color palettes.

What’s Anticipated

Sunna’s excited about the idea of couples having a more inclusive wedding: like the bride and groom walk down the aisle hand in hand, or having guests stand during the ceremony, instead of sitting down.

Best Advice

Apart from using Pinterest and Instagram, Sunna recommends that couples seek advice from friends and family members who’ve recently tied the knot. In her opinion, words from experienced people who couples can trust will be much more relevant.

Michelle Rago of Michelle Rago Destinations

Trends to Expect

Michelle anticipates that this year, Portugal and Spain will be some of the top wedding destinations. She also notes that there’s an increasing number of couples who prefer to change their wedding menu up by making it vegan-friendly!

What’s Anticipated

Michelle hopes to see more couples focused on giving their guests an authentic and sincere experience, instead of excessively caring about the luxury and aesthetic aspects of the entire wedding. She believes that a deeper connection with the guests will be a far more meaningful memory for both the couple and their guests to look back on. She suggests that couples arrange a meal with their guests the day before or after the wedding. That way, they have time to connect with everyone on a more personal level.

Best Advice

She advises couples to broaden their selection of wedding venues. To her, splurging more to secure the ideal location makes for a more unforgettable experience than simply the date.

Virginia Edelson of Bluebird Productions

Trends to Expect

Virginia expects more couples to do away with the six bridesmaids and six groomsmen tradition. Instead, she anticipates seeing “a mix of genders standing on both sides of the aisle - or no one at all!”

As an art lover and art history major, Virginia’s also excited to find that there’s an increasing number of couples who are incorporating artistic fixtures and decorations at their weddings.

What’s Anticipated

She hopes to see couples do something out of the ordinary and get bolder with their color and fashion choices!

Best Advice

Virginia feels that couples should definitely have honest communication between each other (as well as with their vendors) and to always keep their expenses and budget in check.

Tara Guérard of Tara Guérard Soirée

Trends to Expect

According to Tara, there’ll be more weddings that incorporate bar services, with peculiar cocktail concoctions tailored to specific taste buds.

What’s Anticipated

Tara wishes for brides to not hesitate in taking things up a notch and design a wedding ceremony that will be an unforgettable experience for everyone there!

She also loves the idea of a day wedding; she imagines a lunch spread set up in a lush garden, with dreamy orchestra tunes ringing in the air, and the bride donned in a beautiful tea-length gown.

Best Advice

Tara wants all brides to hear this: go on your honeymoon at least a week after the wedding. Couples will enjoy having time to rest after a busy wedding day – not to mention getting sufficient sleep before embarking on their romantic getaway!

Jacin Fitzgerald of Jacin Fitzgerald Events

Trends to Expect

Jacin believes that the Royal Wedding will continue to influence weddings for years to come, with features such as floral displays and installations at wedding venues.

What’s Anticipated

She’s excited to create unusual styles with paper products and can’t wait to work with couples who choose to host their weddings at locations that she has never been to.

Best Advice

Jacin understands that many couples undergo high levels of stress when it comes to wedding planning. Her advice is for them to be clear about their priorities, and to work backward from there.

Neillie Butler of Mariée Ami

Trends to Expect

Neillie believes that color palettes will veer towards a higher emphasis on deeper and richer colors. She envisions designs with a splash of emerald, green, smoky greys, blues with blush, and most definitely “classic blue” — the Pantone color for the year.

What’s Anticipated

She’s excited to work with clients who integrate textures and patterns into their wedding style and would love to see couples create a wedding experience that’s interactive and fun for guests!

Best Advice

Don’t overwhelm yourself or your partner in the planning process. This should be a romantic and memorable experience – have fun!

***

Wedding planning requires a lot of time, thought, and effort - especially if you’re engaged to an Aries! But remember to take it slow and occasionally take a breather. We hope that, with all these tips and advice, your wedding day will be an experience for you to look back on with a smile!
