PG&E Power Shutdown in California

PG&E Power Shutdown in California

Several of our wedding venues in the Bay Area are closed or are likely to close because of the unplanned PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) this October. The potentially long-term outage is a fire prevention measure in response to extremely dry weather followed by anticipated high winds across Central and Northern California.

Our thoughts are with all the communities currently without power. We know the outage is challenging and problematic for everyone in the area, but it's heartening to see local groups supporting each other. Obviously, like everyone else, we hope that the PSPS is effective, and that this year's fire season is mild.

Power Shutdown PGE Oct 9 2019

Several of our wedding venues in the Bay Area are closed or are likely to close because of the unplanned PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) this October. The potentially long-term outage is a fire prevention measure in response to extremely dry weather followed by anticipated high winds across Central and Northern California.

Our thoughts are with all the communities currently without power. We know the outage is challenging and problematic for everyone in the area, but it's heartening to see local groups supporting each other. Obviously, like everyone else, we hope that the PSPS is effective, and that this year's fire season is mild.

During the shutoff, we will close any venue which does not have power. Guest and staff safety has to be our highest priority, and it is unsafe to keep buildings open without adequate lighting.

All couples with weddings scheduled at temporarily closed venues will be informed immediately, and we will work together to find workarounds. When necessary, we’re pleased to offer alternative locations.

At Wedgewood Weddings, we have nearly 50 wedding venues, which allows us to switch locations at short notice when necessary. While this is something we always try to avoid, we feel the option provides peace of mind. The nature of this shutoff, with the outages moving from city to city as the situation changes, means that while one venue is without power, a nearby location may remain unaffected.

As the power shutoff continues, we'll proactively communicate with couples, guests, vendors, and our teams to find reasonable solutions that meet everyone's needs. We aim, as always, to keep everyone safe while creating an environment where people can happily celebrate their love.

We all have limited information regarding the duration of the shutoff and recognize that the best-case scenario for all couples is fulfilling their event at their selected location. All decisions are being made with the information available and based on each couple's requirements.

We hope all wedding celebrations this week take place with minimal interruption. Our wedding team is resilient and positive, and we're proud of their ability to create solutions even in the most complicated circumstances.
